That's right. Although you might find hotels listed with a Victoria address, this is only their postal address, not their physical location. It's a little confusing, right? In fact all hotels in Seychelles including those on the smaller islands have a Victoria postal address...

The last hotel that operated in the capital closed its doors over two decades ago. That was the Pirates Arms Hotel. The site is now an office block, which houses the local insurance company.

The only legacy left from the Pirates Arms is the café, which still goes by the same name and to this day is a famous watering hole for locals as well as visitors.

All hotels are now located outside the capital although some are quite close. The nearest, the Wharf Hotel and Marina is actually just 5 minutes by car on the way to the airport.

There are also small family-run guesthouses very near the capital at Mont Fleuri, La Louise, Bel Air, St Louis and Pointe Conan but there are none in Victoria.

But new real estate developments are going on right now that are going to bring hotels and luxury vacation rentals in the form of apartments and condos closer to Victoria, where it all started a century ago.

For now though, if you're looking for a hotel you'll have to go outside Victoria. But no worries - Mahe Island is small and you can get to the capital for business from your beach hotel in just 10 minutes.

Talking of beach hotels, the Beau Vallon area, on the other side of the island of Mahe, has several hotels, and some right on the beach and it's a good place to stay whether you come to Seychelles on business or for a vacation. There you'll find budget hotels as well as luxury 5-star hotels.
