Prices of Seychelles cheap hotels are down at least 50%. "Why?" you ask. I'll get to that in a minute. But are you on a very tight budget? Then to put it bluntly - Seychelles is not the right destination for you...

There is no cheap beer in Seychelles, no really cheap hotels, no cheap food, no cheap excursions, no cheap fuel, no cheap transport. Yes in Seychelles there is nothing cheap, but it is a pretty place, and a Seychelles holiday is heavenly when you can afford it. But the two words "Seychelles" and "cheap" just don't go together.

But if you want a holiday in Seychelles then this is probably the best time, as all hotel prices are down at least 50%. Since the floating of the Seychelles currency (Seychelles Rupee) and subsequent devaluation in late 2008, the Seychelles currency lost 65% of its value almost overnight, and hotel prices took a tumble.

It has started to recover since. It means prices are starting to go up again but they are at least 50 to 60% lower than early 2008 prices. Another way to put it is that you can now pay as little as 40 cents on the dollar for the Seychelles cheap hotels, or you can afford more. Luxury hotels in Seychelles now cost what you used to pay for the budget hotels.

What does it mean for you? Since the hotel prices depend on the exchange rate it means this is the time for a Seychelles holiday. This is the time for "cheap" hotels in Seychelles. This is the time for hotel deals - Seychelles discount hotels. This is the time for a Seychelles vacation on a budget.

It's now or never. Now is the time for Seychelles hotel deals. Prices cannot get lower because cost of living is relatively high in Seychelles since most basic commodities are imported. In fact 90% of what you and your hotel consume is imported.

When you add to this the present high cost of fuel, transport and taxes it means only one thing - the prices of budget hotels in Seychelles at their current low cannot really get any lower.

For your information, cash-strapped visitors to Seychelles always complain. The complaints are along these lines - Food is expensive, beer is expensive, taxis are expensive... and then they start comparing prices with other holiday destinations like perhaps Mauritius and Maldives or the Caribbean.

There is no denying that prices in Seychelles may be sometimes scary. The locals have to put up with the high costs too, and for them it's 365 days a year. Seychelles just happens to have a high cost of living and no amount of complaining will change that. You are lucky that you only have to pay these high prices for a few days only. Paradise comes at a price - Seychelles prices.

And if I may add comparing Seychelles to another destination is like comparing apples to oranges. Accept the prices or vote with your feet, but then you would never know what you're missing.

Now that you understand the fact that Seychelles discount hotels and budget hotels in Seychelles and the luxury hotels too, and all Seychelles holidays will always command a premium, go enjoy yourself in paradise. Go with the full expectation that you are going to spend some real money. Seychelles cheap hotels don't really exist...

By the way it will be paradise for you only if you can afford whatever you want or need to make your Seychelles holiday enjoyable. If you've got to pinch pennies, you'll do better elsewhere - trust me - anywhere but Seychelles. There are plenty of cheap destinations, and Seychelles is certainly not one of them. And this is a fact about Seychelles.

Helvetia Hotel is a personal favourite among Seychelles cheap hotels. The service is good. It's cheap. It's run by students of the Seychelles Tourism Academy. It has 16 cosy rooms, and they overlook the Grand Anse Bay. It stands on top of a hill, and has a wonderful view over two of the smaller islands - Isle Aux Vache and Therese Island.

Please note this is a mountainside hotel at high altitude, and the evenings can get a little chilly with temperatures down to 20°C (68°F). Hey, don't worry that it's not by the sea. Trust us. You get a great deal, and it's only 10 minutes to one of the best beaches of Seychelles.

Helvetia Hotel La Misere is one of Seychelles little secrets and remember you heard about it here. This is no luxury hotel. It has a 2-star rating, but for Seychelles hotel deals it's hard to beat that.

The prices at all these small hotels above are less than Euro 100 per room per night for two persons including tax. They are all cosy and usually family-run and with less than 10 rooms - nothing fancy but clean and comfortable with all the basics.

At those Seychelles cheap hotels and guesthouses you'll enjoy true Seychelles hospitality. Also note that all those small budget hotels can provide low-cost dining too - comparatively. So try have at least one meal at your hotel in addition to breakfast, and save - Talk to them when you're there.
