At the Seychelles beaches you've got to pinch yourself. There are 76 strips of sand to choose from on just one island - Mahe Island. And Mahe is only 17 miles long, and only one of the 155 islands. The most popular with visitors it is also where most call it home among the Seychelles islands.

Some of these islands have a single beach that encircles them. These are the sand cays like Bijoutier Island, Banc Providence, Bird Island, Denis Island, Desroches and many more...

Others, like the granite island - Beacon Island, have no beach at all. But there are several hundreds of beaches scattered around in the one million square kilometres of sea. Most of the Seychelles beaches are chalk white, but the more exotic ones of La Digue are pink.

La Digue Island is renowned for its pink beaches and pink granite boulders. One of La Digue's beaches, Anse Source d'Argent, is one of the most photographed beach in the world although it did not quite make it into our list of 10 best beaches of Seychelles.

The Seychelles beaches are often depicted as if they were the 8th wonder of the world. Not surprising though... Some of those sands will take your breath away. Come to the Seychelles and experience the splendour - the indescribable magic. Come watch the sun go down at Beau Vallon Beach.

Take a picnic basket to your favourite beach - plenty of food and lots to drink. It's going to be long, warm and nice. Now go enjoy these out-of this-world Seychelles sands. Any day is a good day for a beach picnic in Seychelles.

And something else that may be worthwhile mentioning in passing is that there are no private beaches in Seychelles. So they are all there for your enjoyment. All free...

Now I don't want to rain on your parade but just a word of caution as you dream of a Seychelles beach holiday... Remember nature at its best is wild. The sea is not a swimming pool. There are cross currents and undertow off some of the better beaches of Seychelles.

These depend on the time of year and the state of the tide. They vary from day to day and seem quite unpredictable. Nature makes no exceptions and shows no respect for those who disregard its power. Don't get mesmerised by the call of the most enchanting sea. Remember that...
