This is your page. Below is where you can tell us about your preferred Seychelle Island and also read about others' favourites. Tell us your own story here or just read on...
Pronounced as "say-shell" or "say-shells" - both correct - and written by many as Seychelle, when talking about these islands many talk of it as if it were just one island. Yes some do actually say the Seychelle Island. But this is not correct.
Don't forget there are, after all 155 of those forest green islands. They are spread across the azure blue sea of this part of the Indian Ocean in a chain - 1000 miles long.
For many, the Seychelles Island is equivalent to Mahe, which is the main island and home to 85 % of the population of Seychelles. This is where Victoria, the capital, a quaint little town is located. There are no cities in Seychelles! The outskirts of Victoria, its suburbs and the tiny capital itself houses 25 % of the total population.

The amazing Seychelle island - Aride, a nature reserve - Great place for a day trip
But staying on the main island only, you fall far short of experiencing Seychelles. There is so much more to this unusual country as you'll see further down.
Did you know that the main Seychelle island, is in fact not the biggest? For your information, the biggest landmass among these islands is the atoll of Aldabra, 650 miles away from Victoria.
This one is a fabulous nature reserve, almost 3 times the size of Mahe Island. Although all the islands are worth seeing Aldabra is one Seychelle island that is an absolute "must-see" if you love nature and have the time and resources.

Best Seychelles beach - Ptit Anse La Digue
It is a World Heritage Site but it is remote and one of the most difficult places to get to. Just a dozen visitors are allowed at any one time and there is no lodging there. You can only get permission for day visits and the only access is by sea.
This place is a dream for any naturalist. And scuba diving there is almost beyond words. It is indeed unique with a population of around a dozen rangers, and research workers.
The permanent inhabitants include a huge colony of 100,000 giant land tortoises, a large variety of birds - some unique - and other wildlife. There is also a great diversity of marine life including sea turtles, sea cows and fish in abundance.

It has a central lagoon that fills up and triples in size at high tide leaving a relatively thin cordon of dry land around the periphery, but even then this dry land area is still bigger than Mahe.
And it is often said that the main island of Seychelles could sit comfortably inside the Aldabra lagoon! You can read more about Aldabra here...
Praslin and La Digue islands are two other islands of Seychelles that are truly worth a visit and very popular with visitors too.
Praslin Island is famous for its unique "coco de mer" or huge double coconut and the prehistoric forest of the Vallee de Mai or May Valley, where these unique ancient trees grow in profusion. The second reason to visit Praslin is one of our 10 favourite beaches - Anse Lazio.
La Digue is one inner island famous for its beaches and huge boulders of pink granite, but even more so for its laid-back way of life. On La Digue Island you travel back 50 or 60 years to a Seychelle island of yesteryear.
No visit to Seychelles is complete without a trip to these two enchanting islands. But there's even more if you want to truly sample the diversity of Seychelles. At least one of the sand cays should be on your itinerary for a day trip.
