Now enter private Seychelles islands and beaches... and all start to dream... Well, you too can have your own private island. Absolutely. The Constitution of the Seychelles guarantees the right to private property, and that means even to a whole island.

Private Seychelles islands come in all shapes and sizes. For example the coral cay Bird Island is slightly less than 200 acres (70 hectares). Bijoutier Island is about the size of a football field, but you could hardly fit a tennis court on some of the private islands like L'Islette and Round Island, both near Mahe...

Cousin and Cousine islands (sometimes referred to as North Cousin and South Cousin islands), near Praslin, are private islands too. They are about the same size - around 65 acres (25 hectares) each.

But did you know that Silhouette Island, the third biggest island in the granite group of Seychelles, is also a private island? Absolutely. It covers 5,000 acres (20 sq Km). Yes it is a private island, and it's also bigger than the world famous La Digue Island.

Silhouette Island has the second highest mountain peak in all Seychelles at 2461 feet (750metres), so it's a great place for mountain trekking, and for just admiring nature. Consider that it has 5 mountain peaks of elevation exceeding 500 metres. That gives you a great view all around.

Hey if you do go up there, just be careful. It can get slippery in those hills. But it can't get better than that for hiking. There are no roads on Silhouette - just nature trails.

This huge private Seychelles island now sports a luxury resort! What of the beaches of Silhouette Island? Well none of them made it into our chart of the top 10 beaches of Seychelles.

Frankly when I think of beaches Silhouette Island never comes to mind, but snorkelling and scuba diving is superb there. The sea around Silhouette Island is a marine park, so fishing is not permitted.

Now, let's put matters straight, since this site is about Seychelles Islands and beaches. The fact is there are no private beaches in Seychelles. If someone tries to "sell" you on a private Seychelles beach, then they are trying to pull a fast one on you.

Going back to the Constitution of Seychelles - It guarantees every citizen the right to enjoyment of all beaches in the whole of Seychelles. So while a beach may be secluded and while anyone may own real estate adjoining that beach, no one has any more rights to that white strip than you, me or any tourist who may also enjoy it freely.

Now what does that mean for you and me? It means that you do not have to stay at that posh luxury resort to enjoy the best they have all day. It means no Seychelles resort can own that priceless beach in Seychelles. No one can :).

 

It means you too can enjoy that 5-star beach for free. Just bring along some sunscreen, plenty of water, and snacks for the day. The best of Seychelles is indeed free - gratis! The best Seychelles beaches are there for you to enjoy with the compliments of the people of Seychelles.

Don't let hotels and travel operators sell you on a "private beach". It's good to hear the words private beach, but it does not exist in Seychelles. But by all means if you are interested in a private Seychelles island, then that's different. Go for it. It's a good investment.
