What is the cost of a flight to Desroches?

How much does it cost to fly from Mahe to Desroches?
Also does Desroches have good snorkelling and diving?

Hey GM,
Before I answer your questions you must first understand that Desroches, in the Seychelles, is a private island. It is part of the Amirantes Islands group of 29 islands in a chain that stretches over a distance of some 200 miles. Desroches Island itself is almost 150 miles from Mahe - to the southwest. And Desroches is an exclusive resort for the discerning visitor.

Being a private island it means that you'll have to book flights as part of an all-inclusive package together with board and lodgings arranged with Desroches Island resort. And usually there is a minimum stay applicable too. You can of course reach Desroches by yacht from Victoria, if you have more time. But all that should be prearranged with their office on Mahe.

So you'll have to arrange all transfers with Desroches Island Resort. The 40-minute return flight from Mahe presently costs Euro 555 pp. And you'll have to book it together with your accommodation. There is a daily scheduled flight to Desroches and charters can also be arranged on 8 and 18-seater aircrafts.

If you have less time and /or want something similar on a budget then check out Bird Island, which is smaller and much closer to Mahe. Denis Island is another great option, for luxury accommodation and a tropical island resort on a private island - an absolutely flat island.


To answer your second question: Yes of course, Desroches is a beautiful and exclusive island with great reefs and ideal for a relaxing beach holiday. The Amirantes group is considered among the best dive sites and it has the best reefs for snorkelling in the Seychelles.

Jacques Cousteau, the famous French underwater explorer, had only good things to say about the Amirantes where he spent many months diving. It's probably one of the best dive sites in the world. And there is a fully equipped dive centre with PADI-certified guides on the island.

And needless to say, the fishing there is amazing too but for the best fishing you have to choose the time of year well and you'll of course need guides, but all this can be arranged on Desroches. And talking about my favourite topic, fishing in Seychelles you must not overlook islands like Alphonse, St. Francois and my favourite Bijoutier in the south of the Amirantes.

You want beaches? There are 9 miles (15 km) of deserted fine white sands encircling this 800-acre island which is 4 miles long - unspoilt beaches, like it was a thousand years ago. And you'll get bicycles and kayaks to explore this magnificent island and its beaches.

Desroches is an exclusive retreat for the very well-heeled - those for whom prices don't matter. And surely, no price tag can be too much for heaven anyway! Can it?
