Bonefishing in Seychelles and Other Holiday Activities

Is it possible to hire a fishing guide for just a couple of days, or is it all 6-day packages?

First, know that there are 155 islands in the Seychelles and bonefishing is only one of the many different kinds of holiday activities available. And each island has its own special characteristics and best activities. A Seychelles holiday can be tailored for individuals with a variety of interests.

If you are an angler who cannot get enough of fishing then you certainly want to, and can fish everyday. Then you should make plans that will allow you to fish every single day of your holiday in Seychelles, but if you're not a confirmed fisherman then you can choose otherwise - either a package or make up your own itinerary and visit several different islands trying your bonefishing or even some blue-water fishing here and there or nowhere at all.

There is much more to do in Seychelles than fishing you know, and only a very small number of visitors actually go angling while here. In fact as far as sea activities are concerned fishing is not as popular as scuba diving among visitors, for instance. And most come to Seychelles to go sight seeing and exploring the beaches on several islands rather than fishing.

On the nearer islands (44 in number when you include Bird and Denis Islands which are the closer sand cays) you can hire fishing guides and boats, where needed by the half day if you want to go fishing.

On the Outer islands like Desroches and Alphonse Islands where you find some of the best bonefishing in Seychelles many go there just to relax and in addition to fishing you will find other activities on offer like scuba diving, and sailing and much more. You could also just spend your days snoozing on the beach there among other land-based activities.


Then of course there are fishing-only packages on offer to the hard-core fishermen usually on a "liveaboard" yacht very far away from "civilization". This is essentially a fishing expedition lasting one week at a time. And there isn't much else to do on those trips but fish and sleep.

And you'll be at sea for the whole week. You may come fish close to some of these far islands but there are no lodgings and no settlements there. But if you fall in this category, as you plan your fishing vacation, check out the best time of year for fishing in Seychelles.

If you plan to fish for a short time only while in Seychelles you should make contact with the Seychelles Marine Charter Association when you get to the islands. You can also arrange for all your fishing needs through any hotel there.

Since it appears that you want to combine some bonefishing with other experiences in Seychelles then you certainly can do that and it would be good in that case to plan your holiday so you take in several islands. That would be the best Seychelles holiday
