2011 update: Berjaya Praslin Beach Resort is now called Berjaya Praslin Resort, but for me it will always be Praslin Beach Hotel. :-)

This resort AKA Praslin Beach Hotel is a favourite among cost-conscious travellers. It's a fairly large hotel (large for Seychelles) situated in the middle of the most popular beach on Praslin Island. It is among the top cheap hotels in Praslin.

If you're looking for luxury then this is not for you. You should probably be going next door to Paradise Sun, a 4-star hotel or over the hills to Lemuria, the only 5-star hotel on the island. Praslin Beach Hotel is classed 3-star.

But still, at Berjaya Praslin Beach Resort, the superior rooms offer extra space and all rooms are ensuite and equipped with air conditioner, mini-bar fridge, bath and shower, tea and coffee making facilities, IDD telephone...

This relatively cheap Praslin island hotel is situated on the beautiful Cote d'Or Beach, not just any old beach. This is the most popular beach on Praslin and the longest too - about 3 km long. The hotel is functional and as far as location is concerned it is second to none.

At Berjaya Praslin Beach you'll be situated smack-dab in the middle of this most magnificent beach. If you're looking for cheap hotels in Praslin then you've found your place. As one of the larger hotels on Praslin it has 79 rooms in three different categories just across the road from the beach.

Note: At Cote d'Or the public road runs along the coast and passes very near the beach in that area and it separates the hotel rooms from the beach bar and its small open air restaurant, but not to worry - it's not a busy road. After all this is Praslin!

Also the hotel has been refurbished recently and the rooms are well appointed and tastefully furnished, so providing even more value and making your stay as comfortable as possible. Most of the rooms at Berjaya Praslin beach face the garden and pool but it takes just a minute to walk to that superb beach.

This Praslin beach hotel has 2 restaurants and 3 bars. The Pizzeria is its beachfront restaurant and bar where apart from Italian fare you can sample Creole cuisine. One favourite is its smoked fish. It is perhaps not the best on the island but prices here are quite reasonable.

Its pool bar is open for lunch and the main restaurant is where a very satisfying breakfast is served as well as a reasonably priced dinner. The central theme of Berjaya Praslin seems to be, making a Seychelles holiday affordable and I believe, it does succeed at that...

Another positive feature of Berjaya Praslin Beach Resort is that it is located within walking distance of a number of restaurants, cafes, shops, buses and taxi boats, and excursions are organised to the more popular places on and around Praslin and La Digue daily from the hotel...

While you're here don't miss out on a visit to Anse Lazio Beach and of course the celebrated Vallee de Mai palm forest. After all those are the two reasons that Praslin has been called the "Garden of Eden." While you can join organised tours both places are easily accessible by public buses that stop very near the hotel.

While Berjaya Praslin Beach Resort helps you keep money in your pocket, it is advisable to rent a car for a couple of days on Praslin to really see the island. Well if your situation does not permit, then at least rent a bicycle. Then you'll enjoy the additional mobility, so you'll see and enjoy more of Praslin Island at your own pace.

Berjaya Praslin Beach Resort is a good base from which to explore. It is 12 minutes to the ferry jetty, 15 minutes to Anse Lazio, 20 minutes to the Vallee de Mai and 25 minutes over the hills to the Praslin airport...

From the beach in front of the hotel you can catch a boat for excursions to the nearby islands of Curieuse, Aride, St. Pierre, La Digue, Cousin and other less accessible beaches, like Anse Georgette, on Praslin's northwest coast.

But for a trip to Cousin and La Digue islands, I advise taking the boat from Grand Anse and the Baie Ste. Anne ferry jetty respectively. It just means you'll have to catch a bus or taxi to get to your departure point but it makes for a shorter and easier crossing. It's better, especially if you do not have good "sea legs."

Many who stay at Berjaya Praslin Hotel swear by it. They are ecstatic. They know it when they see a good deal but several others set their expectations too high and are disappointed because they seem to forget that they booked into a 3-star hotel.

They look at that magnificent beach - yes it is a 5-star beach - and so expect more of the hotel. No you'll have to pay much more for luxury on that beach. You should also know that there are other hotels in Praslin. And if you can afford more, then you could of course try Paradise Sun Hotel, a 4-star luxury property, just next door, so you can still enjoy this amazing beach.

If you're not decided yet whether you should book into Berjaya Praslin Beach Resort Hotel then consider that it also has a dive centre by the beach and provides several complimentary water-sports activities like:

• Kayak canoeing
• Hobbiecat sailing
• Windsurfing
• Snorkelling
• Pedal-boat rides

These are all free. Taxi boats are there too for a small fee. Fishing boats are also available from the beach if you are into blue water fishing. And when you're done on that amazing stretch of sand, there is a tennis court to stop the pounds accumulating while on your Seychelles beach holidays.

Also in the same vein, there are lots of hiking trails up the hills behind the hotel and well worth trying if you feel fit enough, as they afford great panoramic views on both sides of the island from higher vantage points. Those are easy trails.

You can quickly and easily reach heights of some 300 metres. But remember bring along plenty of drinking water and wear good climbing shoes. Hiking happens to be one of my own favourite activities on Praslin and all over the Seychelles islands. So if you are like me, enjoy it.

In conclusion, this, of all the hotels on Praslin, provides excellent value for money. You won't be living like a prince at Praslin Beach but you'll have one of the best Seychelles beach holidays you ever dreamed possible, even in Seychelles where your money doesn't go as far as you're used to. And there is live entertainment often at the hotel too. So enjoy the unique Creole ambience while you're here.

 

Finally, I want to stress that you certainly can find better hotels on Praslin, but you'll also have to pay more. Berjaya Praslin Beach Resort has made staying next to a 5-star beach affordable.
