#5 Bird Beach, on Bird Island
Most people these days arrive on Bird Island by air, either by helicopter or by a 20-seater twin-prop Air Seychelles aircraft. While it is fast and in 30 minutes you can be there from Mahe Island, I believe the best way to appreciate the superb Bird Island is to sail there. And you can charter a yacht for that amazing experience.

And guess what? You land there on the beach - the most beautiful beach you can imagine. You see Bird Island has one of the finest beaches in Seychelles and you land right there - on the best beach.

The best landing on Bird Island for me has been by boat, right there on that fabulous soft powder-fine white beach.

Bird Island is indeed beautiful, but can you imagine spotting it just before sunrise in the distance?

And watching it grow in size ever so slowly with the unmistakeable white beach cordon running from one extremity to the other.

And finally landing on that incredibly lovely beach! The magnificent turquoise sea and that superb beach has cast a spell on me.

Even before you see the other amazing things that Bird Island has to offer this is hard to beat. I'll take that beach landing any day over flying to Bird Island. Yes, more recently I have flown there but it does not compare.

The beach is just one long white spread that encircles the island, perhaps 5 km long, but the best sands is just there at the sea-landing point stretching several hundred metres to Bird Beach towards one end of the island

On the other side of the island the sand is less fine but since it is sheltered by the reefs it's better for swimming and snorkelling.

#4 Intendance Beach, on Mahe Island
This beach is a real gem on the southern coast of Mahe - more than 1000 metres long, and popular with surfers. With fine white sands and beautiful turquoise blue sea, this surely has got to be the top beach on Mahe Island among 76 others. And that's a lot on an island 17 miles long and only 55 square miles in area.

Not surprisingly it has been picked for an exclusive luxury resort and has before that featured in such movies as Tarzan the Ape-man, with Richard Harris and Bo Derek, in the 90's.

In this luxury villa-style resort you truly get lulled to sleep by the gentle murmur of ocean breakers tumbling on the beach.

Just amazing! And that's where you'll find our favourite villa on Mahe. This surely is one of the best beaches of Seychelles.

#3 Grand Anse Beach, on La Digue Island
This is a magnificent beach. Beautiful sands, the sea is beyond description, but you have to cross the hills of La Digue probably on foot to get there. There is a road but it is steep. Most visitors to La Digue Island never get to this beach. They miss out on one of the very best beaches of Seychelles. What a shame!

They get diverted. They fall into the usual tourist traps. If you ever get to La Digue ask about Grand Anse Beach and head there. In fact you'll have a double reward if you break away from the crowd.

You can even take a taxi now, but your trusty bike will still be best. See how best to get around on a day trip on La Digue.

#2 Anse Lazio Beach, on Praslin Island
When I first laid eyes on that beach I thought I had died and gone to heaven. To put that in perspective that was after I had walked the beach around Bird Island, which is indeed breathtaking. What more can I say? No picture can capture this beauty.

The sight, the sounds the feelings of amazement - they were just fantastic. I just stood there in awe immersed in the whole experience. This was magical. I must add that since then I have been back many times.

The last time, access had improved and it now sports a cafe, but the magic of Anse Lazio is still there. The sea is of a shade of blue that is quite unique. No wonder it gets so much world acclaim! Some people come to Praslin just to see this spectacular beach, and of course, the Vallee de Mai - the 8th wonder of the world, it has been called! And now...

#1 Ptit Anse Beach, La Digue Island
Our choice for the number 1 - the best of the best beaches of Seychelles - goes to Ptit Anse Beach on La Digue Island. This is a really secluded beach. I told you above getting to Grand Anse Beach would get you a double reward. From Grand Anse Beach, facing the sea, look left...

...Yes what you have to do is cross that low ridge. 10 to 15 minutes through some bushes among some boulders will give you your first glimpse of the very best beach in all Seychelles among hundreds of beaches.

It will probably be deserted. Enjoy that first sighting - the azure blue sea, the shimmering white sands the murmuring of the surf... Savour the best of the best beaches of Seychelles.

La Digue island is indeed blessed. And your Seychelles holiday is never complete without a trip to La Digue. One final word of caution though...
